This
is
so
true.
They want to take us back to the malaise era, when American cars had a speedo, gas gauge, and idiot lights.

A good combo of touchscreen and buttons works well. what I really want is affordable HUD.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

Back in the ‘80s I wanted a full set of these classic VDO gauges, for the full aircraft look. I still dig them, but I don’t know if I’d actually install them in anything I own...

GM has best development department and builds crud fleet cars with it. They're getting better though,

Their HUD has been made since the late 1990's, and unlike BMW’s you can actually see the HUD with polarized sunglasses on.

Sleek for me. Complicated is rarely good or usable.
Modern planes are simpler too:

I want the aircraft robot warning voice to yell at me when I do something stupid.

Meanwhile, many pilots are moving away from steam gauges.

I don't need somebody screaming OVERSPEED at me while I'm rushing to work, thank you very much.

What would that cockpit look like with a bunch of switch blanks? Cuz that'd probably be the model I'd end up buying.

All a man really wants in life is a button with a flip-up lid.

THAT IS SO TRUE!!! I’ve often thought that if I were to build a completely custom car, I would fill the interior with as many random gau ges and buttons as possible. My car may not need an altimeter or a compass or five clocks or a boost gauge or a wind shield wiper speed gauge , but I want excessive gauges and buttons, dagnabb it!!! Never before will so little have been measured so much! A nd toggle switches. Ain’t nothin’ more satisf ying than the click of a toggle switch...

the one above is from a company porsche bought a portion of, to include a whole range of driving data.
As for GMs it one thing I loved on the ATS, that I had crazy thoughts of buying. I wish it was offered on lower models. I remember my aunts bonneville had it and thought it was cool.

The cockpit belongs in the vehicle that goes with it.
The idiom of the 2JetZ (a real hand-built car powered by a 2JZ Supra engine for a HotWheels contest, and is now a hot wheels toy that just came out.)
But to add to the Jet fighter feel, as well as the interior cockpit (which I would SO want to go with an articulated linkage steering system with side stick handle bars.
Tilt articulating front suspension like the NeoWing, or Tilting Motor Works. not anti-roll, but active roll, on conical-section motorcycle tires, for angular and gyroscopic weight transfer to increase grip.
The roll also feels like banking an aircraft, but on the ground.
Something the size of a CanAm Ryker or Spyder, but with a cockpit, it would likely have to be recumbent seating position.

Exactly.
